WhatsApp users faced a major disruption. Last Monday, accounts belonging to users worldwide were placed under review, resulting in temporary restrictions.
WhatsApp users across the globe, including those in India, faced significant issues last Monday. Accounts suddenly entered a 24-hour review phase, making it difficult to send messages or make calls. Users took to social media to complain about the problem, with many sharing screenshots and reporting their inability to use the platform.
According to media reports, WhatsApp accounts were blocked for 24 hours. Upon opening the app, users saw a message stating: “Account in review: Your account activity and device info is being checked.” This indicated that the account and device were being scrutinized, with the outcome expected after 24 hours. Users faced considerable inconvenience and disruption to their work during this period.
The outage began at 8:00 AM and persisted throughout the day. During the review process, users were advised to use the app responsibly, and options regarding account information were displayed.
Meta’s Response
Meta stated that it prioritizes its users and blocks accounts to ensure platform safety. However, automated systems sometimes mistakenly flag accounts for review. The issue has now been resolved, and services have been restored.
Users can now send and receive messages, as well as make audio and video calls. While the company has confirmed the restoration of messaging services, it has not yet disclosed the specific reasons for the blocks or which regions were most affected.
How are fake accounts identified?
For your information, WhatsApp uses automated systems to identify fake accounts and messages, subsequently imposing restrictions on such accounts. The objective behind implementing this system is to enhance platform security. However, the system sometimes flags accounts by mistake, causing them to undergo a review and resulting in a suspension of service.
What to do if your account is suspended?
If your account has been flagged for review by mistake, wait for WhatsApp to complete its review process, as the company has started lifting suspensions.
