Michelin Primacy 5: India’s first locally manufactured passenger car tire launched; prices start at ₹10,000!

French tyre manufacturer Michelin has officially launched its first locally manufactured passenger car tyre, the Primacy 5, in the Indian market. The tyre is priced at Rs 10,000 and will be available in rim sizes ranging from 16 to 22 inches. Michelin has been manufacturing tyres for trucks and buses in India for over a decade, but this is its first foray into the passenger car segment.

According to the company, this is just the beginning and in the coming days, the ‘Pilot Sport 4 SUV’, ‘Pilot Sport 5’ and ‘LTX Trail ST’ tires will also be manufactured in India in phases.

Key features of the Michelin Primacy 5

Excellent braking ability: Compared to tires from other competing companies, this new tire stops the car 8 meters earlier on wet roads. Even after aging, it can stop the car in 9 meters less. Also, on dry roads, it takes 4 meters less to brake than other tires.

More mileage and range: This tire saves 6.5 percent more fuel compared to the company’s older Primacy 4ST model, while helping to increase the range of electric vehicles.

Long life and suitable for many vehicles: Its lifespan is 8 percent longer than the old model, making the ride more comfortable. Available in sizes from 16 to 22 inches, this tire is suitable for everything from ordinary mass-market cars to premium luxury vehicles.

Special design for the Indian market

Speaking at the launch event in Chennai, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said, “The Made in India Primacy 5 has been specially developed and tested to meet the needs of Indian drivers. This tire, certified by an independent testing institute, is a significant milestone in the company’s journey in India.”

Michelin is now expanding its presence not only in Tier-1 cities but also in smaller cities. In the last one year, the company has set up more than 800 sales outlets in India. The company has taken this big decision as the automobile sector in India is expected to grow tremendously in the coming decade. This tire is now available for purchase at Michelin authorized dealers and service stores across the country.
