The popular micro SUV Tata Punch has created history in the Indian automobile market. It has become the fastest SUV in India to cross the cumulative sales milestone of 8 lakh units in less than five years since its launch. Available in various engine options like petrol, CNG and electric, the car has been steadily increasing in popularity among customers.
The car was launched in October 2021, below the Nexon, in Tata Motors’ lineup. Its compact size, attractive design, high ground clearance and excellent safety features have made it the first choice for customers upgrading from hatchback cars and first-time car buyers, and it became the best-selling car in the country in 2024.

Engine options and performance
Initially available with only a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, the car is now available with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Apart from this, it also gets a CNG variant with turbo petrol option and dual-cylinder technology, which maintains the boot space in the trunk. The starting price of the petrol portfolio is Rs. 5.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Punch EV
In January 2024, the company launched the ‘Punch EV’, which is the first car based on Tata’s new acti.ev architecture. With 25 kWh and 35 kWh battery packs, this car offers a range of up to 421 km on a full charge. It offers fast charging, vehicle-to-load facility and multiple regenerative braking modes and its starting price is Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Updated and premium features
The top variants of this car get modern features like 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, sunroof and 360-degree surround-view camera.
Excellent safety
In terms of safety, the petrol model has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test, while the Punch EV has received a 5-star rating for adult and child safety in the Bharat NCAP crash test. It has important safety features like 6 airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, tire pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.
