The renovation of actors Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s famous ‘Mannat’ bungalow in Mumbai has finally received the Supreme Court’s approval. The apex court dismissed the petition challenging the renovation, saying that homeowners have the right to make changes to their property within the framework of the law. The petitioner had claimed that the necessary environmental clearances and other statutory norms were not followed for the expansion of ‘Mannat’ bungalow. It also stated in the petition that the approval of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is mandatory for projects costing more than Rs five crore.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Suryakant said that ‘Mannat’ is a private residence and clarified that there is no objection to its renewal if the law is followed. The court also rejected the demand to send the matter back to the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Earlier, the NGT had also rejected the appeal against the CRZ and environmental clearance granted for the expansion of the ‘Mannat’ bungalow. The tribunal had clarified that all the necessary permissions for the project were obtained as per the rules. Meanwhile, Gauri Khan had proposed to build two more floors on the six-storey annex building of ‘Mannat’. This proposal had created a controversy over environmental clearance. However, with the NGT and then the Supreme Court also rejecting the petition, the way for the expansion of ‘Mannat’ has now been officially cleared.
Property purchased in Delhi!
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has repurchased a property associated with his childhood memories in Delhi’s Panchsheel Park. He has bought the second and third floors of the building for around Rs 37 crore, while he previously owned the ground floor and first floor. So now Shah Rukh owns the entire building. He spent his childhood in this house and also spent his early days after his marriage to Gauri Khan here. Shah Rukh has rekindled his old memories by getting this house back after many years.
