Houthi Attack Indian Ship In Red Sea: The safety of merchant ships has once again become a serious threat in the troubled waters of the Red Sea. On Tuesday, Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeted an Indian-flagged commercial vessel, MSV Faiz Noor Aulia. Following this horrific attack, the Indian ship sank in the sea, but fortunately, all 14 crew members on board were safely rescued.

Drone boat attack

According to reports, Houthi rebels used a remote-controlled drone boat laden with explosives to carry out the attack off Yemen’s western coast. The explosion was so powerful that the ship was beyond rescue, and it slowly sank into the depths of the Red Sea. Following the attack, the Yemeni Coast Guard successfully rescued 13 Indians and one Yemeni national on board.

India expressed strong displeasure

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reacted sharply to the incident. The ministry issued an official statement strongly condemning the attack and calling it a violation of international law.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on social media that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh is in constant contact with Yemeni authorities and is ensuring the safety of the rescued Indian citizens. India also expressed its gratitude to the Yemeni government and coast guard for their assistance during this crisis.

Growing threat to maritime trade

The Government of India has appealed to the international community to immediately stop targeting commercial vessels in maritime lanes. The Ministry of External Affairs stressed that security of maritime lanes is essential for global trade and the unhindered movement of shipping. Such attacks not only cause economic losses but also violate international maritime law.

Past incidents raise concerns

The spate of attacks on ships in the Red Sea continues unabated. Earlier, on July 18th, the MV Omorfi was attacked near Russian waters. Chief Officer Sagar Gupta, one of the three Indian crew members, died in that incident.

The recent incident has once again demonstrated how dangerous the Gulf region’s sea routes are becoming for sailors and merchant ships. Currently, the Indian government is actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to ensure the safe return of its citizens.
