The Al-Ahli manager is expected to arrive at Newcastle at any moment, and he already appears to have identified his first transfer target.

Newcastle United are aiming to hand Matthias Jaissle the signing of a player he has admired for a long time.

Jaissle is expected to be confirmed as Eddie Howe's successor at St James' Park after Howe resigned last week.

Supporters have been left somewhat deflated following the exits of several major players over the past 12 months, with Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali all departing for huge fees.

Captain Bruno Guimaraes is also continuing to attract speculation, amid reports that Newcastle have turned down Arsenal's opening bid for him.

Newcastle now need fresh additions not only to plug those gaps in the squad, but also to give Jaissle the strongest possible start once his switch from Saudi club Al-Ahli is formally completed.

Reports indicate that Newcastle are already working on a deal for a player Jaissle has been tracking for quite some time: Feyenoord's Anis Hadj Moussa.

The Algeria international, who generally operates from the right wing, has been a regular in the first team for the Dutch giants since joining from Belgian club Patro Eisden two years ago.

Jaissle is believed to have previously tried to sign the forward for Al-Ahli, but that attempt was unsuccessful.

Hadj Moussa has been linked with a number of English clubs over the last couple of years, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all said to have shown interest.

That sounds to FourFourTwo like the work of a very busy agent, to be honest, but Dutch journalist Dennis Kranenburg has claimed that Newcastle want to bring him in as a replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Hadj Moussa's numbers for Feyenoord across the past two seasons have been respectable rather than exceptional, with the winger registering 25 goals and 12 assists in 83 appearances in all competitions.

Even so, his overall displays have largely been impressive in a Feyenoord side that has been struggling badly by its own standards. He produced a standout performance against Manchester City in the Champions League in 2024/25, and at 24, he may still have more room to develop.

He was part of Algeria's squad at this summer's World Cup, starting their opening match against Argentina before being moved to the bench for the remainder of the tournament.
