New Delhi: People Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has come under criticism after photographs and videos from a protest in Jammu and Kashmir appeared to show the Indian National Flag being displayed in an incorrect orientation.

Flag Code of India lays down display rules

According to the Flag Code of India, the Tricolour must be displayed with the saffron band at the top, followed by the white band with the navy-blue Ashoka Chakra, and the green band at the bottom.

The Code provides guidelines regarding the dignity, handling and proper display of the National Flag. However, an incorrect display of the flag does not automatically establish intent, and each incident has to be viewed in its specific context.
