The world of electric vehicles (EVs) is witnessing new experiments every day. Until now, people had to plug their electric scooters in to charge them. However, a unique scooter has been launched that charges directly in sunlight. California-based startup company AuthorLab has launched a solar-powered electric cargo scooter called Lightfoot. This scooter will be very useful for short trips around the city and for transporting goods.

Two solar panels on the body itself

The ‘Lightfoot’ scooter’s design is inspired by the classic Vespa and Volkswagen Bus. Two 120-watt solar panels are mounted on either side of the scooter’s aircraft-grade aluminum frame. This system provides up to 30 kilometers of additional range per day when placed in good sunlight.

5 km in 1 hour of sunlight

If you park this scooter in bright sunlight for just one hour, the battery is charged enough to provide a range of approximately 5 kilometers. Although this scooter doesn’t run entirely on solar power, regular charging is rarely required if you park it in the sun every day. In addition to solar charging, it also features a powerful lithium-ion battery.

Great battery and range

60 km on a single charge: The battery can travel up to 60 km on a single charge.
Fast charging: The battery can be charged up to 80 percent in just 90 minutes when charged using a regular charger.
Regenerative braking: This allows the scooter to recycle energy generated by braking back into the battery.
Touchscreen display: The scooter features a 2.8-inch waterproof touchscreen display that displays speed and battery level.
Spacious 45-liter trunk

This scooter features a large 45.2-liter lockable cargo trunk in the center, which can easily hold up to 20 kg of luggage. This space is sufficient for storing an office bag, groceries, or a helmet. The center kickstand maintains good balance.

Dual Motor and Features

Both wheels are powered by 750-watt brushless hub motors. This scooter can reach speeds of up to 32 kilometers per hour. Weighing 62 kilograms, it features hydraulic disc brakes, 10-inch wheels, a 120-decibel horn, and electronic wheel locks.

What is the price?

The ‘Lightfoot’ solar scooter has a starting price of $4,995 (approximately Rs. 4.75 lakh). Currently, the scooter is available for sale in the US market. The company has not yet announced a launch date for the scooter in India.
