Chandigarh: The true success of any health scheme cannot be measured solely by the expenditure incurred or the number of cases resolved, but rather by whether people receive timely treatment when needed. Under the Bhagwant Mann government’s Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY), 291,417 beneficiaries have received treatment since January 8, 2026, a significant achievement.

The value of cashless services and the impact on families

According to the latest data from the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab, approximately ₹1,044 crore worth of cashless healthcare services have been provided so far under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme. Behind these figures are thousands of families who have had the opportunity to focus on the health of their loved ones without worrying about the cost of treatment during a medical emergency.

Statement by Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh

Commenting on this achievement, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said, “Any health scheme is considered successful when it reaches people in need. The Chief Minister’s Health Scheme is not just a statistical scheme, but a means to ensure that no patient has to choose between treatment and financial burden. Each beneficiary represents a family that received support from this scheme during difficult times.”

Commitment to improving the health system

The Health and Family Welfare Minister further said, “We understand that healthcare needs are constantly changing, and it is our responsibility to continuously improve the healthcare system. Through the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, we are making cashless treatment more accessible, strengthening healthcare services, and ensuring that every eligible citizen benefits from this scheme.”

Sureshpal Kaur’s Experience – Pregnancy and Newborn Care

Many beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme have expressed their satisfaction and happiness. Sureshpal Kaur explained that the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme was a source of support for her family during a difficult pregnancy. She said, “During my pregnancy, I developed high blood pressure and needed a caesarean section. The health card proved to be a huge help during this time. After birth, my child required specialized neonatal care, which was provided as part of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme package. This scheme supported us during this difficult time, and my child got a healthy start in life.”

Rupinder Kaur’s Experience – Knee Replacement

Rupinder Kaur of Sunam said that for years, excruciating knee pain had disrupted her daily life. She said, “I had been suffering from severe knee pain for a long time, but concerns about the cost made it difficult to even consider surgery. I received a free knee replacement under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme. This treatment has given me the opportunity to live a normal and better life again.”

Similarly, Bir Singh of Tarn Taran received timely treatment under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme after being diagnosed with a heart condition. He underwent angiography and PTCA (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty).

“Doctors told me that heart disease treatment cannot be delayed, and the cost can be a huge burden on the family. Thanks to the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, I received the necessary treatment on time,” said Bir Singh.

Impact of the scheme across Punjab and top districts

The impact of the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana is now clearly visible across Punjab. Beneficiaries in every district of the state are receiving treatment under the scheme. According to district-wise data from the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab, 291,417 people have benefited from the scheme so far. Patiala leads the districts with 27,892 beneficiaries, followed by Bathinda with 22,584 and Ludhiana with 21,729 beneficiaries. This demonstrates that the need for accessible healthcare is not limited to any one region, but is a widespread demand across Punjab.

Number of beneficiaries and wider reach in other districts

A large number of people have also benefited from the scheme in Jalandhar (19,312), Hoshiarpur (19,075), Amritsar (16,550), Sangrur (16,549), Sri Muktsar Sahib (14,800), Ferozepur (13,344) and Gurdaspur (12,037). This wide reach is a testimony to the fact that the Chief Minister Sehat Yojana is not limited to big cities only, but is providing the benefits of quality health services to families in all the districts of the state including small towns and rural areas.

The expanding scope and future objectives of the scheme

The ever-expanding scope of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme represents a simple yet significant transformation in healthcare.
