Monsoon Diet Alert: While rain makes the weather pleasant, our digestion slows and weakens during this season. The increased humidity and bacteria during monsoons significantly increase the risk of stomach infections, food poisoning, and the flu. If you want to stay healthy during the monsoon season, eliminate these foods from your diet immediately.
Cut Fruits & Street Food
Cut fruits, dumplings, or chaat found on roadsides are particularly harmful during this season. Due to the humidity in the outside air, bacteria can grow rapidly on cut fruits and loose foods, leading to the risk of food poisoning.
Leafy Greens
Leafy vegetables like spinach, cabbage, and fenugreek should be avoided during the monsoon season. Insects and their eggs can accumulate on these leaves during the rainy season, making it difficult to completely clean them with just water. This can lead to stomach infections.
Seafood and fish
The monsoon season is the breeding season for most fish and marine life. Seafood is often less fresh during this time, and contaminated water can make fish more susceptible to infections, which can lead to stomach upset.
Fried & Oily Foods:
While it’s tempting to eat pakoras and samosas during the rainy season, it’s important to control your intake. Our digestion slows down during the monsoon season. Heavy and oily foods take longer to digest, which can lead to acidity, gas, and bloating.
Raw Foods or Salads:
Uncooked or raw foods are difficult to digest in this season. Raw salads can contain bacteria. If you do want to eat salad, boil or steam the vegetables thoroughly before eating them.
Health Expert’s Monsoon Healthy Diet Tip: Always eat fresh, hot, and thoroughly cooked food. Include ginger, turmeric, garlic, black pepper, soups, and boiled water in your diet. This will keep your immunity strong.
