Ruben Amorim has offered some insight this week into the situation surrounding AC Milan’s unsettled forward Rafael Leao, stressing that the Portugal international will continue to remain involved.

Speaking from the Rossoneri’s pre-season camp in Australia, the Milan head coach’s remarks suggested there could yet be a mending of relations between Leao and the club.

Earlier this summer, Leao had appeared all but certain to leave San Siro. But after underwhelming displays during the 2025-26 season, interest from across Europe has been limited for the 27-year-old, who was born in Lisbon.

Leao was reportedly hoping for a move either to the Premier League or La Liga, but the only concrete interest came from Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas.

Much like his spell at Manchester United, Ruben Amorim now finds himself under pressure at another major European club. Even so, his measured handling of the situation is likely to have reassured Milan’s red-and-black supporters.

Speaking before Milan’s friendly against Inter in Perth, the coach underlined the importance of a positive collective atmosphere, while also making an encouraging reference to Leao.

“All the players are working really well: both those who started from day one and those who joined later. Rafa is lucky to be at a club like Milan, so he should be happy. I feel he’s happy and motivated.”

Although Amorim is keen to see the best from his compatriot, he also acknowledged that the transfer window can still bring unexpected developments.

“I don’t know what will happen between now and the end of the transfer window, but I feel the group is really united.”

He continued, “The important thing is to continue with this spirit when things get tough. At this club, you have to win every match, and for that, we have to maintain the right spirit throughout the season. So I haven’t felt or seen any difference in Leao compared to the other players. I feel everyone is preparing to start a very difficult season.”
