Umashankar Singh, the lone BSP MLA in UP, passed away in a Delhi hospital.

Umashankar Singh, the lone Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from the Rasra assembly seat in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, died on Wednesday. The 55-year-old had been suffering from a serious illness for some time .

He was considered close to BSP chief Mayawati.

In fact, Umashankar Singh was considered very close to BSP President and former Chief Minister Mayawati. Suffering from a brain tumor, Umashankar Singh was undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Delhi, where he breathed his last. His death has cast a pall of grief over the Rasra Assembly constituency.

CM Yogi expressed grief

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on the death of the BSP MLA, saying, “The sudden demise of Honorable MLA Umashankar Singh from the Rasra Assembly constituency of Ballia district is deeply saddening. My condolences are with the bereaved family. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place in his feet and give the bereaved family the strength to bear this immense loss.”

Akhilesh Yadav also expressed grief

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also paid tribute to Umashankar Singh on his death. Posting on Instagram, he wrote, “BSP MLA from Rasra Assembly constituency of Ballia, Umashankar Singh ji has passed away. Extremely sad. May his soul rest in peace.”

Umashankar Singh was elected twice from Rasra

The death of Umashankar Singh, twice elected from the Rasra Assembly constituency on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket, has dealt a significant blow to the party. Upon receiving news of his death, a crowd of supporters gathered at his residence. The entire family is currently in Delhi.
