Politics has heated up in Uttar Pradesh over the recently inaugurated Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the BJP government after a video surfaced showing fans being used to quickly dry the road surface during repair work on a section of the expressway. He took to social media to criticize the BJP, calling the entire incident a question mark on the state government’s development model.

Akhilesh Yadav wrote in a social media post that the need for repairs to an expressway, which was inaugurated only two to three weeks ago, is a matter of serious concern. He questioned how common people will travel safely on a new road if it deteriorates so quickly. The SP chief said that installing fans to dry the road during repairs raises questions about the quality of development work. He sarcastically said that this is the “new wind of BJP progress,” where roads are being dried with fans instead of strengthening them. In his statement, the SP president said that projects built during the BJP government’s tenure are less sustainable and more mired in controversy. He alleged that many construction projects in the state begin to deteriorate prematurely. According to him, the BJP government’s development model prioritizes publicity over quality. He said that the biggest responsibility is to ensure that projects built with public tax money are durable and safe.

Akhilesh Yadav, linking this issue, also questioned the state government’s proposed “Atal Progress Way” project. He questioned whether the project would remain limited to mere announcements or would actually be implemented on the ground. He sarcastically questioned whether the project might have been shown as complete on paper and had already been “divided into parts.” He alleged that many construction projects under the BJP government appear to be sinking, collapsing, and breaking down more than progressing. After a video of the expressway’s repairs went viral, the issue has become a topic of political debate. The opposition is demanding answers from the government regarding the quality of the construction work and its monitoring. Meanwhile, people on social media are also reacting differently to the video. Some users are attributing it to the quality of government construction projects, while others are defending it as part of the technical process.

At present, there has been no detailed official response from the government or the concerned construction agency on this issue. However, amid questions raised about road construction and maintenance, this matter is likely to remain a topic of discussion at the political and administrative levels in the coming days. The opposition is attempting to corner the government by linking this issue to public safety and the quality of government construction work, while all eyes are now on the government’s official clarification and further action.
