The expected arrival of Matthias Jaissle at St James' Park signals the start of a new era for Newcastle United — and these are the players they could target under their soon-to-be-appointed new manager.

Recognised for his high-pressing approach, shaped by the Red Bull school of coaching, and his sharp tactical detail, the 38-year-old German has built a reputation as one of the most highly regarded young coaches in elite football — although his appointment still carries an element of risk.

Whenever a manager steps into a major project, there is naturally a tendency to turn towards familiar players — footballers who already understand pressing triggers, defensive responsibilities and dressing-room standards.

Once his appointment is formally confirmed, it would be no surprise if Jaissle recommends that type of player to the Newcastle hierarchy.

Even though Newcastle have already been among the more active Premier League clubs in the market this summer, they still require carefully chosen reinforcements across the squad.

That is why the ‘Jaissle effect’ could matter in the final month of the summer window. Here are seven players who have previously worked under Jaissle and also match Newcastle’s squad needs.

Appearances under Jaissle: 91 (6 goals, 14 assists)

No outfield player appeared more often for Jaissle during his silverware-filled spell at Red Bull Salzburg than Austrian midfielder Nicolas Seiwald.

Operating as the driving force in Jaissle’s midfield diamond, Seiwald made 91 appearances under the German coach, providing press resistance and defensive cover. Newcastle lack depth in the holding midfield role, which makes Seiwald a realistic option to reunite with his former manager.

After moving from LaLiga to Al-Ahli, Spanish creator Gabri Veiga began playing under Jaissle.

With Newcastle needing long-term athleticism and ball-playing ability at centre-back, Solet matches the tactical profile.

Bosnian full-back Amar Dedic enjoyed his breakthrough under Jaissle at Salzburg, making 52 appearances and directly contributing to 10 goals from right-back.

Considering Newcastle’s need to refresh their full-back options following Kieran Trippier’s exit and Tino Livramento’s ongoing injury issues, Dedic could be a viable option because he already knows the manager’s demands.

Rebuilding a squad that is in transition is rarely as straightforward as bringing in a group of familiar faces. Recruiting players who already know the manager’s system can certainly ease tactical implementation, but putting together a reshaped squad under a head coach who is still learning the club himself is a delicate exercise.
