Pune city’s iconic Regional Transport Office (RTO) ‘MH-12’ is about to undergo a major and historic change in its identity. The number of vehicles in Pune is increasing at a rapid pace, and the old registration series is coming to an end soon. As a solution to this, Pune RTO is now preparing to launch a new series for vehicles called ‘MH-12 1A’ . Interestingly, this will be the first experiment in the country to use letters along with numbers in vehicle numbers.

As per the current rules, the RTO series uses two letters starting from ‘MH-12 AA’ to ‘MH-12 ZZ’. However, considering the ever-increasing number of vehicles in Pune, all the available options in this series are now almost at the final stage. Therefore, to avoid shortage of the series and to facilitate the registration of lakhs of new vehicles in the future, the RTO administration has prepared this innovative and historic proposal.

This new registration method will include a digit immediately after ‘MH-12’ followed by a letter (e.g. 1A, 1B, 2A). This new experiment will make billions of new numbers easily available to Pune RTO for vehicle registration.

Currently, this proposal is in the final stages of approval, and soon this new series of cars will be seen running on the roads of Pune. Due to this decision, vehicle owners will not face shortage of numbers. This new experiment in Pune in the automobile and transportation sector is sure to be a new guiding step for the entire country.
