After Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the Sri Lanka Test series, the fitness of young batsman Sai Sudharshan is also a concern for Team India. Find out why the suspense over his participation remains and what the BCCI’s next decision could be.
IND vs SL, More Trouble for India: Team India’s concerns are growing ahead of the Test series between India and Sri Lanka, which begins on August 15th. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has already been ruled out of the series due to fitness issues. Young fast bowler Aaqib Nabi has been included in his place, but now the fitness of another player remains a concern for the Indian team.
The status of young batsman Sai Sudharshan’s participation in the Sri Lanka tour remains unclear. His name remains in the BCCI’s updated squad, but the star (*) next to it indicates that his selection will also depend on fitness. Therefore, the team management will now be monitoring his medical report before the start of the series.
IND vs SL: Bumrah ruled out, but suspense over Sai Sudarshan still lingers
When the BCCI announced the squad for the Sri Lanka Test series, both Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudarshan’s names were marked with an asterisk (*). The board clarified that the selection of both players would depend on their fitness. Bumrah was later found to be unfit and was dropped from the squad. Aaqib Nabi replaced him, but Sai Sudarshan’s name still bears an asterisk (*). This indicates that a final decision on his availability is still pending.
IND vs SL: Practice match will clear the picture of Sai Sudarshan
A three-day practice match (IND vs SL) will be played between India and Sri Lanka starting August 7th. It is believed that this match will determine whether Sai Sudarshan is fully fit for the first Test. Sudarshan has already made his Test debut for India, but has not performed as expected so far. Despite this, the team management is expressing confidence in him. If he is not fully fit, his participation in the Sri Lanka tour may be in doubt.
IND vs SL: Devdutt Padikkal could be an option
If Sai Sudarshan is not fit, Team India has the option of Devdutt Padikkal for the number 3 spot. Padikkal has experience batting in this role and could be included in the playing eleven if needed. Therefore, the selectors and team management will have no shortage of options, but a final decision on Sai Sudarshan’s fitness will be awaited.
IND vs SL: India’s updated squad for the Sri Lanka Test series
Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudarshan*, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnur Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain and Aaqib Nabi.
