The Spurs published a photo on Tuesday (via Twitter) showing the group of players who are in Paris, France this week for a summer mini-camp. The workouts, hosted by Victor Wembanyama, also feature De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, Harrison Barnes, Jordan McLaughlin, and offseason addition Tobias Harris.

According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, big man Kelly Olynyk is also in attendance, though he’s still an unrestricted free agent after spending last season in San Antonio.

Spurs CEO RC Buford revealed during a recent appearance on a French podcast that “eight or 10” Spurs would be joining Wembanyama in France for the offseason mini-camp. Buford observed that it’s a promising show of leadership from a 22-year-old who has established himself as the face of the Western Conference champions.

“The thing that you see about great leaders is very seldom do they resemble or match somebody else,” Buford said, per Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “He’s not trying to be anybody but himself. He sets a great example in his approach, in the way he takes care of his body, the way he connects with his family and with his teammates. There are not many times where 10 guys from a team are flying halfway around the world to go work out together. That’s done because of the respect, admiration and joy that Victor brings.”

• San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones will host three listening sessions regarding a possible $489MM contribution from the city for a new downtown arena, according to Tony Castro of KSAT. City residents may get to vote on the potential deal in November. Buford issued a statement this week noting that Bexar County voters approved $311MM for the project last year, Molly Smith of The San Antonio Express-News writes in a subscriber-only story. He argues that the city only needs approval from council, which happened last August when seven members authorized a draft financing plan for the arena project.
• In a recent interview, Buford stated that president of basketball operations Gregg Popovich continues to make progress in his recovery from the stroke that forced him to end his coaching career, per Raul Trey Lopez of The Express-News. Popovich was frequently around the team during its run to the NBA Finals, offering feedback and encouragement throughout the playoffs. “He continues to rehab with more purpose and diligence than I think any of us could have imagined,” Buford said. “He’s improving and, you know, his presence is always there to support the team.”
• Head coach Mitch Johnson, a Seattle native, recently took members of his coaching staff to the Seahawks’ training camp to learn more about how the defending Super Bowl champions are preparing for the season, per Tom Orsborn of The Express News. The group sat in on meetings and talked to players as part of their experience. “We had a great visit with (Johnson) yesterday and kind of talked some shop with him,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said. “Great people, really aligned on how we want to run our programs.”
