Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, while participating in the 7th International Renewable Energy Conference held in Delhi, said that Madhya Pradesh is working with full commitment to achieve the national target of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. He said that the state is progressing rapidly in the fields of renewable energy, energy storage, and green industrial development. Today, Madhya Pradesh has established itself as one of the leading states in the country.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav traveled from the airport to Shivaji Stadium via the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line to attend the conference, promoting clean and environmentally friendly public transport. The Delhi Metro extensively uses solar energy for its operations, so the Chief Minister traveled by metro as a symbol of his commitment to green energy.

Presentation given on the achievements of the energy sector of Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh gave an effective presentation of its achievements and future action plan in the field of clean and renewable energy at the 7th International Energy Conference and Exhibition-2026 held in New Delhi. Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi, Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Bhutan’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister HE Lyonpo Jam Tshering and Lanka’s Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka, Additional Chief Secretary New and Renewable Energy MP Manu Vastav along with energy sector experts, policy makers and representatives of the industry from India and abroad were present in the inaugural session of the conference.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh is fully committed to achieving the national target of 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity by the year 2030.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is rapidly emerging as the country’s leading green energy hub, thanks to investment-friendly policies, robust infrastructure, and abundant natural resources. The conference emphasized energy security, green technology, innovation, investment, and international cooperation. This event will prove to be an important step in strengthening global partnerships in clean energy and achieving sustainable development goals.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that in the last 12 years, Madhya Pradesh’s renewable energy capacity has increased from 438 MW to 11,000 MW, a nearly 25-fold increase. In the last two years, the state government has fostered investment and innovation by implementing renewable energy, pumped hydro energy storage, and biomass policies. He added that the 750 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project established a solar energy tariff lower than coal-fired power for the first time in the country. This project received the World Bank Group President’s Award for Excellence and its case study is taught at Harvard University. The 1,500 MW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch Solar Project achieved a record low solar tariff of ₹2.14 per unit and is providing green energy to Indian Railways in eight states.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that the country’s largest floating solar project of 278 MW capacity was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2025. Additionally, proposals for approximately 14,900 MW capacity have been received under the ‘Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana’, with significant participation from farmers and the MSME sector.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that battery energy storage projects are being rapidly developed in the state to strengthen energy security and grid stability. Morena’s 440 MW solar power and 880 MW-hour battery energy storage project is the first in the state to have competitive power purchase contracts. Work is also underway on 4-hour, 6-hour, and 24-hour solar-cum-energy storage projects.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the Rooftop Solar Scheme, 48 MW capacity is being developed on 1,300 government buildings, whereas under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, rooftop solar plants of 566 MW capacity have been installed in about 1.5 lakh houses of the state.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh’s investment-friendly policies, immense green energy potential, and industrial capabilities have been effectively presented at various international forums, including the World Economic Forum in Davos. He expressed confidence that Madhya Pradesh will become the country’s leading center in the fields of clean energy, energy security, and sustainable development in the coming years.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Education, Prahlad Joshi, said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is rapidly progressing in the field of clean and green energy. He informed that the country will soon cross the 300 GW mark of installed non-fossil power capacity and more than 50 lakh families are taking advantage of rooftop solar under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme. He said that many states, including Madhya Pradesh, have made significant contributions in increasing renewable energy capacity and called upon all states to pay special attention to sustainable development, energy efficiency, environmental protection and widespread use of clean energy.

6 Hours Battery Energy Storage: These projects play a vital role in better integration of renewable energy, demand management and grid stability by providing longer duration of energy supply.

24-Hour Renewable Energy and Storage Projects: Developed by combining solar energy and long-term energy storage, these projects are capable of providing clean and reliable power 24 hours a day, providing energy security to high-demand consumers such as industries, distribution companies and data centres.

Role of NRED: The Department of New and Renewable Energy, Government of Madhya Pradesh, is the lead department responsible for formulating renewable energy policy, investment promotion, project development, and coordinating programs to the energy transition in the state. The department works to make the state a leader in clean, safe, and sustainable energy.

Role of Rumsal: Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited is a joint venture between Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Rumsal serves as the nodal agency for the development and implementation of large-scale solar, floating solar, hybrid renewable energy, and battery energy storage projects in the state. Rumsal’s innovation-based projects are establishing Madhya Pradesh as a leading state in the country in the field of energy storage and 24-hour renewable energy supply.
