Automobile desk: The graph of the electric vehicle (EV) industry in India is rising rapidly. In the coming years, this sector is set to emerge as a major source of employment within the country. According to a recent study by Adecco India, a renowned talent and staffing solutions company, there is a strong possibility of approximately 30 to 40 million new job opportunities being created in the country’s EV industry by the year 2030. Given the increasing acceptance of electric vehicles in the market, annual recruitment in this sector is expected to witness a steady growth of 15 to 20 percent.
The EV industry is not limited to cars.
Currently, the scope of electric vehicles is no longer limited to personal cars. The use of electric vehicles has also rapidly increased in two-wheelers, commercial fleets, public bus transport, and logistics. This is why the entire industry is no longer limited to vehicle assembly, but is transforming into multifaceted sectors such as battery manufacturing, charging infrastructure, component electronics, motor design, and recycling. Based on data and feedback from over 100 companies, this report shows that in the future, in addition to the manual workforce working on assembly lines, there will be an unprecedented surge in demand for skilled engineers, semiconductor specialists, energy system experts, and power electronics professionals.
Up to 90% of jobs will be created indirectly.
Of these total employment opportunities, 10 to 15 percent will be created directly in EV manufacturing and core companies. Meanwhile, 85 to 90 percent of jobs will be created indirectly through supply chain management, after-sales service, maintenance of charging stations, logistics and allied industries. In terms of career start-up, approximately 40 to 50 percent of the appointments may be on flexi-staffing or contract basis in the initial phase, which will later convert into permanent roles based on the performance and experience of the candidates.
EV policies in India are strengthening the EV sector
According to Adeco India’s leadership, India currently accounts for approximately 4 percent of the global passenger EV market, while its share in the electric two-wheeler segment has reached 17 percent. The central government’s “Make in India” initiative and new EV policies being implemented by various state governments are strengthening the sector’s backbone. If the country’s manufacturing capacity and skilled manpower are properly aligned, India could become a major hub in the global supply chain.
Battery recycling and charging sector booming
Certain segments within the EV industry are rapidly emerging. The battery recycling industry has demonstrated a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 55 percent over the past few years. Furthermore, given the expansion of charging infrastructure across the country, this sector will require up to 45 percent new technical talent over the next decade. Promoting electric mobility will not only create new opportunities but also reduce India’s dependence on crude oil imports, strengthen energy security, and significantly contribute to achieving the country’s long-term net-zero emissions goals.
