Nainital, To keep Mall Road, considered the city’s landmark, free of noise pollution, the district administration and police have tightened surveillance. Five CCTV cameras have been installed in the no-horn zone to monitor those honking. These cameras will monitor drivers violating traffic rules on Mall Road.
On the instructions of DM Lalit Mohan Raiyal, Mall Road has been declared a no horn zone from August 1. After the implementation of the rule, the police is making people aware in the first phase, while now technical surveillance has also been started. The police have installed five CCTV cameras at Tallital toll toll, India Hotel in Mall Road and the ramp near the Information Department, SBI Tiraha in Mallital and Masjid Tiraha. These will record audio along with video. Through these cameras, traffic activities in the no horn zone will be continuously monitored and necessary action will be taken against those violating the rules.
SP Traffic and Crime Dr. Jagdish Chandra said that unnecessary honking on Mall Road increases noise pollution, which causes trouble to local people, tourists, elderly, children and patients. He said that people are being made aware first, but those who ignore the rules will be monitored through cameras. He said that the aim of the campaign is not only to issue challans, but to increase awareness among people about traffic rules and to maintain the peaceful and gentle identity of Nainital. The police have appealed to all the drivers not to use horns on Mall Road and to follow the traffic rules.
