New Delhi: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat held a live interaction with young people in Mumbai. He said that today’s generation, namely Gen Z and Gen Alpha, have the right to ask questions and it is wrong to call them “anti-national.”

“Dialogue is essential before confrontation.”

Bhagwat was speaking at the IIMUN event at NMACC, where around 2,000 school students aged 15 to 19 from over 100 cities across the country were present. When asked about the Gen Z protests, he said, “They are not anti-national. They are our own people. They are our next generation.”

He stressed the need for open dialogue to bridge the gap between institutions and youth. He emphasized the need for dialogue before confrontation. Comparing this to the older generation, he said, “In our time, we used to take what our elders said and didn’t ask questions. Now, Gen Z demands logical answers. This is a good thing.”

Compliments of Gen Z and Gen Alpha

Bhagwat said that the new generation is more honest than the previous one. They have a strong sense of patriotism and service. Referring to the lathi charge at Jantar Mantar, he said, “I don’t have complete information, but I trust Gen Z.” He cited the Indian tradition of “shastra,” which listens to both the pros and cons. It is only through different opinions that a complete understanding of an issue is formed.

What did he say on education and reservation?

Regarding education, Bhagwat said the complaints were justified. He said, “Education is not a commercial business. It is a necessity of life. It should be made accessible and affordable for all. Fees and other issues need to be considered.”

His statement on reservations was also significant. He said, “As long as social discrimination exists, reservations should continue. But those who have already benefited and improved their circumstances should make room for others. If implemented properly, it will alleviate many concerns.”

Opinions on LGBTQ and Leadership

Regarding the LGBTQIA+ community, he said that they are an important part of society and that Indian society has always accommodated them. He described the family as the fundamental unit of society.

On leadership, he said that a true leader is one who works behind the scenes to lead the team forward. He also admitted, “I don’t consider myself a leader.” Bhagwat’s statement is also being seen as a reflection of the RSS’s changing perspective on youth issues.
