Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the launch of Prime Focus’ state-of-the-art studio facility at Film City, Goregaon, marks a significant step towards transforming Mumbai into a global centre for the creative economy.

Speaking after inaugurating the first phase of the world-class studio facility, Fadnavis said realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global hub for creative industries requires advanced technology, modern infrastructure and a strong ecosystem for innovation.

The Chief Minister said Prime Focus’ ambition to create a globally competitive entertainment facility in Mumbai has become a reality with the completion of the first phase. He added that the Maharashtra government extended all necessary support to ensure timely execution of the project, which was completed within a year of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the WAVES 2025 summit.

Fadnavis said India’s rich culture, heritage and history offer countless stories that can reach global audiences with the support of cutting-edge technology and a vibrant creative ecosystem.

Highlighting the studio’s role in major productions, he referred to Ramayana, one of the world’s largest cinematic co-production projects currently being developed at the facility. He congratulated the production team and expressed confidence that the film would showcase Indian creativity on an international platform.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to promoting youth talent, employment opportunities and the entertainment sector, Fadnavis announced that a comprehensive redevelopment plan to transform Film City into a world-class creative and entertainment destination would soon be finalised.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar said the Prime Focus facility represents a unique combination of culture and advanced technology. He added that the project reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of the “Orange Economy” by integrating creativity, heritage and innovation.

Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Chanchal Kumar said the facility is a direct outcome of the MoU signed between the Maharashtra government and Prime Focus during WAVES 2025. He said India’s talent, storytelling traditions and creative potential can help the country emerge as a global leader in the creator economy.

Prime Focus founder Namit Malhotra thanked the Maharashtra government and Film City administration, saying the facility would serve as the company’s global headquarters and strengthen India’s position in the international entertainment industry.

He said Phase-2 of the project would be completed soon to further enhance India’s capabilities in global content creation.

Chief Minister’s Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse also praised the project, describing its rapid execution after the WAVES 2025 agreement as a major achievement in developing a world-class creative content hub.
