Bayern Munich are reportedly viewing Benjamin Sesko as the eventual successor to Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
As per Ben Jacobs, the German heavyweights have earmarked the Manchester United forward as Kane’s ‘long-term successor’.
Even so, any move is expected to be considered either next year or in 2028, with ‘talks underway’ as Bayern look to keep the England captain at the club for the long term.
Although Kane is now 33, there has been no indication of any drop-off in his goalscoring, and he has only strengthened his standing as one of world football’s most prolific strikers since moving to Germany.
His remarkable tally of 61 goals and seven assists in 51 appearances for Bayern last season, along with seven goal contributions at the World Cup, has placed him firmly in the running to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.
That said, Sesko would clearly have huge shoes to fill if he were to become the leading striker for the Bavarian side.
From Manchester United’s point of view, there will be no appetite to help facilitate such a transfer after they were thoroughly encouraged by what he produced in his first season.
Competing with players such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for a place in the starting XI, the 23-year-old scored 11 Premier League goals across his 30 appearances.
Sesko was unlucky to miss the final three league games of the campaign because of an injury he suffered in the victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, when Ibrahima Konate barged him off the pitch and into the advertising boards after he had scored United’s second goal of the match.
The issue has ruled him out of the team’s pre-season friendlies so far, although there is hope that he will be fully fit in time to feature against Hull City on matchday one on August 22.
