During a dialogue program with Gen-Z, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat made some shocking and significant statements about the country’s young generation and their protests. The RSS chief stated unequivocally that if young people are not heard, they have every right to protest to make their voices heard. He also clarified that protests are an important form of dialogue in a democracy.

Protest in a democracy does not mean division, but consensus.

Expressing his views during the program, Mohan Bhagwat stated that protests in a democracy are a vital way to build consensus. When diverse views emerge in society, a solid consensus is reached only after lengthy discussions. This dialogue should always be conducted through dialogue. However, if your voice is not being heard at the top for various reasons, then agitation can also be adopted. However, he added that any such movement should always be aimed at building consensus within society or the country, not creating divisions among people.

Gen-Z’s complaints are absolutely valid, education system reforms are necessary

Praising the youth, the RSS chief said that the complaints raised by the Gen-Z generation in recent times are completely valid. Dr. Mohan Bhagwat openly stated that much needs to be done in the country’s current education system, but when that work isn’t done on time, it’s natural for the youth to raise such issues.

Comparing his generation to the current generation, he said that when he was Gen-Z’s age, he often silently accepted everything elders said and never raised sharp questions. But today’s Gen-Z and Gen Alpha generations question everything, seeking only logical answers and the love of their loved ones. This is the right approach in a democracy. In English, this is called a “debate,” while in our Indian culture, it is called “Shastrartha,” where there is no meaningless debate, but rather two different sides, the “former” and “reverse,” come together to reach the right conclusion.

There should be a movement to reform the system.

The RSS chief further stated that we should all look at every aspect of life because everyone has a different perspective. When we encounter diverse views, even opposing views, they together present a complete picture of the truth. He emphasized that this must happen.

Mohan Bhagwat clarified that he would never say that Gen-Z should not protest, but simply that there should be certain rules and regulations for expressing and acting in a democracy. The framers of our country’s Constitution, and especially the speeches of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, have clearly indicated this, which should always be heeded. He said that today’s Gen-Z generation isn’t raising their voices just for the sake of protest, but rather because they are facing real problems at the grassroots level that need immediate resolution. He stated bluntly that any movement should not be against him or the government, but rather to reform the entire system.

What did Mohan Bhagwat say about protesters being labeled “anti-national”?

Regarding the frequent student protests and the labeling of young people who often participate in the protests as “anti-national,” the RSS chief responded with a very candid tone. He said that if today’s Gen-Z generation is protesting against something, they cannot be called anti-national under any circumstances. They are our own people and our next generation. I don’t believe that Gen-Z has such a temperament. In fact, I believe that the new generation, Gen-Z and Gen Alpha, are much more honest than our current generation. The true and genuine call of patriotism and social service always has a deep impact on the hearts of these youth.
