Karnataka Cricket Team: Karnataka cricket may soon see a major change. According to reports, former Indian fast bowler and former Karnataka captain R. Vinay Kumar, who played for RCB, could become the new head coach of the Karnataka cricket team. It is being reported that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided to appoint 42-year-old Vinay Kumar as the team’s new head coach, and only the official announcement is pending.

According to reports, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising veterans like Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Joshi, Javagal Srinath, and Venkatesh Prasad has approved his name. The KSCA’s Managing Committee meeting, scheduled for August 13th, is expected to officially approve Vinay Kumar and the new coaching staff.

Vinay Kumar has previously served as the bowling coach of MI Emirates.

According to a Times of India report, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided to appoint former Indian fast bowler R. Vinay Kumar as the team’s new head coach. Vinay Kumar also has extensive coaching experience. He has served as the bowling coach of MI Emirates in the ILT20. He has also worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians. After retiring from cricket, he has also established himself in commentary.

Media reports suggest that Vinay Kumar could become the highest-paid head coach in the history of the KSCA. The Karnataka team is currently undergoing a transition. After finishing runner-up in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, the team is now placing its trust in young players, and Devdutt Padikkal has been given the captaincy.

The period from 2013 to 2015 is considered a golden period in the history of Karnataka cricket. At that time, R. Vinay Kumar led the team, while J. Arun Kumar was the head coach. This successful partnership transformed Karnataka into one of the strongest teams in domestic cricket.

Under his captaincy, Karnataka achieved the historic feat of winning all three major domestic tournaments: the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Irani Trophy twice in a row. Vinay Kumar announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021.

R Vinay Kumar is considered one of India’s most experienced fast bowlers. He played 1 Test, 31 ODIs, and 9 T20 Internationals for India. In these 40 international matches, he took a total of 49 wickets, including 1 in Tests, 38 in ODIs, and 10 in T20s. His record in domestic cricket is even more impressive. He took 504 wickets in 139 first-class matches at an average of 22.44. With 442 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, he is among the tournament’s most successful bowlers.

Vinay Kumar has represented teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the IPL. If he is appointed head coach of Karnataka, his new innings in domestic cricket will be under scrutiny.
