Shehnaaz Gill has opened up about her views on love, marriage and relationships. In an interview with India Today, the Ishqnama actor said love, for her, is about giving time and space to the people who matter. She also recalled avoiding weddings because relatives would constantly try to set her up with prospective grooms. When asked what love means to her, Shehnaaz said, "For me, love has a very different definition. Time is love. Giving your time to each other, to your family and friends, and giving everyone their own space—that, for me, is love." When the conversation turned to old-school romance, Shehnaaz responded with her trademark humour. Asked if she believed in old-school love, she first joked, "I only believe in school romance." Realising the question was about "old-school love", she laughed and clarified, "Old school? I thought you meant school romance." She then admitted that she has never experienced what people describe as traditional romance. "As for old-school love, I haven't experienced it, so I don't really know what old-school love is. I think whatever I have done has been good in its own way. I only believe in myself," said the 32-year-old. Shehnaaz also recalled how marriage conversations began early in her family, making weddings particularly uncomfortable for her. "In our house, girls are told from a very young age that they'll get married soon, so the search for a groom begins early. Whenever I went to weddings, I would deliberately not get ready. I didn't want to look beautiful because I didn't want to come face-to-face with any prospective groom. There are so many aunties and grandmothers at weddings who immediately start trying to fix matches," she shared. Recalling one such incident, she said, "I remember there was an elderly German lady who was related to us. She wanted me to marry her grandson. She would keep telling me, 'Just say yes.' But I would show her a lot of attitude. In my mind, I had already decided that even if she came near me, I would send her straight back to her grandson. I kept giving her attitude, but she still wouldn't give up." She concluded, "This used to happen all the time. Going to weddings was a problem because that's where people would start fixing relationships. So I ran away and made my career. And now, everyone is after me."
