8th Pay Commission Latest News: The 8th Pay Commission has commenced meetings in Delhi with representatives of employees and pensioners. These meetings will cover issues such as salary, pension, the fitment factor, and allowances.

8th Pay Commission: A major update has emerged for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners. The 8th Pay Commission has initiated a series of crucial meetings in Delhi. These meetings will take place from August 7 to August 10, during which direct suggestions will be sought from employee unions, pensioners, and their representatives.

What will happen at the Delhi meetings?

Employee unions will present their demands to the Commission during these meetings. The discussion will focus primarily on employees' basic salary, pension, fitment factor, Dearness Allowance (DA), other allowances, and service conditions. The Commission will prepare its final report only after hearing the views of various stakeholders.

Focus on the fitment factor?

Government employees have high expectations regarding the fitment factor, as the new basic salary is determined based on it. However, the government has not yet approved any specific fitment factor. Various figures circulating on social media are merely speculations; the actual decision is yet to be made. Pensioner associations are also participating in these meetings; they will present suggestions regarding pension hikes, Dearness Relief (DR), and other benefits for retired employees.

Will salaries increase?

No; the meetings currently underway in Delhi are merely part of the process of gathering suggestions. Neither a new salary structure nor a fitment factor has been approved yet. The Commission will first gather opinions from all stakeholders and subsequently submit its report to the Central Government. The final decision will rest with the government.

When will the report be released?

The Ministry of Finance has already stated that the 8th Pay Commission has been given approximately 18 months to complete its work. Based on the current timeline, the Commission's report could be submitted to the government around May 2027. The government will then make a decision regarding the recommendations.
