Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly been given encouragement in their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder was among the Premier League’s standout performers outside the established big six clubs last season, and he was arguably unfortunate not to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Christian Falk has now addressed the links between Gibbs-White and Bayern Munich in his latest exclusive column.

Reacting to a Daily Mail report that connected Gibbs-White with Bayern, as well as with Manchester United and Chelsea, Falk downplayed the chances of the 26-year-old making a move to the Allianz Arena.

In what may come as welcome news for United and Chelsea, Bayern do not appear to be in the running for Gibbs-White this summer.

“It is NOT TRUE (that) Bayern are looking at Morgan Gibbs-White as a potential Michael Olise replacement if the Frenchman signs for Real Madrid,” Falk wrote.

“In midfield, Bayern Munich has many good players in this position, including Joshua Kimmich and Lennart Karl, and then you have up-and-coming stars like Tomas Bischof, who is putting pressure on more established stars like Aleksandar Pavlović. Konrad Laimer can also play there.

“Then, when it comes to the wings, Bayern can call upon Luis Diaz and Lennart Karl. So, no, Bayern are not searching to bolster the position.

“The Daily Mail wrote that the Nottingham Forest man could be considered a potential replacement for Olise, but I just don’t see that. More to the point, Bayern Munich won’t sell Michael Olise this summer.”

Gibbs-White recently changed agents, a development that is likely to have attracted some attention.

He is clearly a player with the quality to step up to the next level, but Forest also resisted efforts to keep him last summer, and they have already almost certainly brought in more than enough money from the major sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.

That means there may be little desire at the club to sanction another big departure, so Gibbs-White could find it difficult to secure the move he wants.

Even so, he would be a strong option for clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea, and if either side arrives with a substantial offer, the situation could yet become very interesting.
