Ajinkya Rahane finally retired after waiting for three years

Ajinkya Rahane, who was a strong wall of Indian batting in Test cricket, has announced his retirement. Ajinkya, who had been waiting for his comeback for three years, has now announced that he will no longer play international cricket. Ajinkya Rahane, who played 85 Test matches for India, played his last Test match in July 2023. Since then, he has not been able to return to the Indian team. Ajinkya Rahane, who has played less T20 and ODI matches, was a part of the Indian team for a long time and was also the reason for victory in many important matches.

38-year-old Ajinkya Rahane started his international career with T20 in the year 2011. Ajinkya Rahane, who played his first T20 match against England in August 2011, got a chance in ODI against England the very next month. However, he had to wait two years in Test cricket and played his first Test match against Australia in March 2013. Ajinkya, who was out for just 7 runs in the first innings of the first Test, was out for just 1 run in the second innings. However, he later made good on the pain of these two innings.

What did Ajinkya Rahane say?

Announcing his retirement, Ajinkya Rahane said in a video posted on Instagram, “It’s a fact of life that everything has a beginning and an end. When the time comes, you have to respect it and move on. I have always believed in timing in my batting and have always understood its importance. Today, I believe the time has come for me to move on and announce my retirement from all formats of international cricket.”

He continued, “I gave everything I had to this game. Every day, every innings, every occasion, my dream was to win the India cap. I always put my country and my team before myself. I always played this game with integrity. Even though my innings as an international cricketer is coming to an end, I’m not going away from cricket. I want to say thank you to everyone who stood by me.” Ajinkya Rahane became emotional as he spoke.

How was Rahane’s career?

Rahane, who played 85 Test matches for India, scored a total of 5077 runs in Tests, including 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. His highest score was 188 and his average was 38.46. Ajinkya Rahane also captained India in six Test matches. He never lost a single match under his captaincy. Four of those six matches resulted in victories, while two ended in a draw. Another interesting fact about Ajinkya Rahane is that he never bowled a single over in any of the three formats of international cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane has also played 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is. In ODIs, he scored 2962 runs, including three centuries and 23 half-centuries. In T20Is, he scored a total of 375 runs, including just one half-century.

However, Ajinkya Rahane has scored 7968 runs in 308 T20 matches in other leagues, including the IPL. Ajinkya Rahane, who captained the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026, has also played for the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
