Chris Hansen gained most recognition for his role as host of “To Catch a Predator” on NBC’s “Dateline.” The show is known for its sting operations targeting adults attempting to contact minors via the internet. The program gained considerable popularity, but its investigation and shooting methods also raised questions. The 2006 Murphy case in Texas further fueled controversy, in which the accused lawyer, Bill Conradt, committed suicide while police and production crew were arriving at his home. Now, Chris Hansen’s name is back in the news as Robert Pattinson is portraying him in A24’s film “Primetime.” The film is based on the early stages of “To Catch a Predator” and its backstory. A recently released trailer shows Pattinson confronting suspects in Hansen’s image. The film is directed by Lance Oppenheim and also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Bokeem Woodbine.
