Israeli sources: According to Israeli media, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in a very serious condition and has been rushed to hospital. Citing sources inside Iran, the Israeli media reported that rumors are spreading rapidly at the highest levels of the government that Khamenei is in a “very serious condition.” “We would not be surprised if we receive news of his martyrdom soon.”
Khamenei was not seen after assuming office.
It should be noted that Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the position of Supreme Leader shortly after his father was killed in joint US and Israeli military strikes on February 28. Since assuming office, he has not been seen in public and has communicated only through written statements. Reports indicate that he was injured, and possibly his face was also badly wounded, in the initial attacks that targeted his father’s compound. This forced him into hiding and, to avoid further attacks, he relied on a thinly veiled network of intermediaries to communicate with senior government officials.
Claims that Khamenei is not in Iran
Amidst speculation about his condition, President Masoud Pezeshkian admitted in an interview with state TV that it is “very difficult” to speak directly with Mojtaba Khamenei at this time. International and regional reports have repeatedly questioned his whereabouts and ability to function. In July, Saudi news outlet Al-Hadath, citing an Israeli security source, claimed that Khamenei was “not in Iran.” Around the same time, US President Donald Trump claimed in a Fox News interview that Iran’s top military leadership had been decimated. He said that Khamenei was “90% finished” and in no condition to function after the military action.
Iranian government officials have previously downplayed the severity of his initial injuries
, but his inability to appear live or address the public directly has fueled speculation both regionally and internationally about his health and leadership stability. While Western and opposition intelligence sources have frequently indicated that he suffered serious or disfiguring injuries, preventing him from making live public appearances and forcing him to rely solely on written statements, Iranian government officials have stated the opposite. Representatives of Iran’s Health Ministry have previously described his initial injuries as minor, and senior officials say he continues to provide strategic care and operational direction for the country.
