Many states across the country have been experiencing heavy rainfall for several days. North India is also affected by the rains. The monsoon is currently slightly weaker than normal. From July 30th to August 5th, rainfall across the country was normal, 7 percent above average. Rainfall was higher in South India, normal in Central and Eastern-Northeastern India, while Northwestern India experienced a decrease. Now, the weather is about to change.

Rainfall for the entire season since June has been 11 percent below average. A deep depression moved through Chhattisgarh and then weakened in the past few days, causing heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and some other areas.

Unusually heavy rainfall was also recorded in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and parts of Uttar Pradesh. A moderate El Niño (El Niño) prevails in the Pacific Ocean, which may strengthen further. 

How will the weather be?

The monsoon will be normal from August 8 to 12. A pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. The western Himalayan regions, Central India, Northeast, and parts of Western India are expected to receive good rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas. Thunderstorms and strong winds will occur in many parts of the country. Rainfall is expected to be normal in the first half of the week and below normal in the latter half.

Where is the rain going to be heavy?

From August 13th to 19th, the Western Ghats, Konkan, Goa, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Northeast, and East India will receive good rainfall. Heavy rains are also possible in many places. Rainfall across the country is expected to be below normal in the first half of the week and above normal in the latter half.

How will the weather be in North India?

Rainfall will continue across northwest India this week. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will experience good rainfall at many locations. Heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand for most of the week, while Himachal may also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall for several days. 

What will the weather be like in Delhi-NCR?

 Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Delhi-NCR and Haryana-Chandigarh. The sky will remain cloudy, and intermittent or continuous rain is possible throughout the day. Temperatures will also be well below normal. Light to moderate rain is expected on August 8th, with very light rain expected on August 9th and 10th. Eastern Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh may also experience heavy to very heavy rain today and in the coming days.

How will the weather be in Central India?

Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive good rainfall over the next few days. Very heavy rain is possible in western Madhya Pradesh today. Heavy rain is also possible at many places in eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

What will the weather be like in Eastern India?

Good rainfall will continue over West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Heavy rainfall is expected in the Gangetic plains of West Bengal and Odisha starting today and over the next several days. Very heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places in Odisha, which could increase the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

How will it be in North-East India?

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall this week. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible at many places.

What will the weather be like in Western India?

Konkan and Goa will see good rainfall throughout the week. Heavy rain is possible in Central Maharashtra. Light to scattered rain is expected in Gujarat and Saurashtra.

What will the weather be like in South India?

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and southern interior Karnataka. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also possible over northern Kerala today. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu may also experience good rainfall at many places.
