Weather Alert: Monsoon’s fierce form! Heavy rains in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with the threat of landslides in the mountains.

IMD Weather Alert: Amidst the ongoing torrential monsoon rains across the country, the Meteorological Department has once again issued a severe alert that could impact public life. According to the forecast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi will experience thunderstorms and rain on Saturday. A severe warning has been issued for strong winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour in 16 states, including Haryana.

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, and east Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and the Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura (NMMT) region.

Talking about Northeast India, apart from heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and NMMT region.

According to the Meteorological Department, southern Uttar Pradesh

A cyclonic circulation is persisting over the Gangetic plains and surrounding areas. A low-pressure area is developing over West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal coast, further intensifying monsoon activity over North and Northeast India.

Landslide threat in the mountains

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have triggered landslide warnings in hilly states, urging travelers to avoid unnecessary travel. Strong winds, gusting up to 75 km/h, are expected to uproot large trees and power poles in the plains of northern India.

Thunderstorm in eastern India

A special lightning warning has been issued for eastern India. Rivers and coastal areas are expected to experience rising water levels. Several districts in northwest and central India are also expected to experience hailstorms this week.

Today’s weather in Delhi/NCR

The sky will remain cloudy throughout the day in Delhi-NCR today. Light to very light rain is expected in many places, while some areas may see moderate rain from morning to afternoon. Similar light rain may continue into the evening and night.

Delhi’s maximum temperature will be between 33°C and 35°C, and the minimum temperature will be between 22°C and 24°C. Both are expected to be below normal. Southeasterly winds (15 km/h) will blow, later changing to northeasterly and increasing to 18–20 km/h during the afternoon and night.
