Chamba: A tragic bus accident occurred on Saturday morning on the Bairagarh-Chamba road in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. A private bus traveling from Bairagarh to Chamba suddenly lost control and fell off the road near the Chaluj turn. So far, 11 passengers have been reported dead in this horrific accident, while 11 others were seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, a private bus belonging to Sharma Travelers departed from Bairagarh for Chamba at around 6:30 am on Saturday. The bus had traveled only about three kilometers when the driver lost control at the Chaluj turn near Devikothi. The bus then veered off the road and onto another road below. Around 15 to 16 passengers were reportedly on board at the time of the accident.
Villagers started rescue work
Upon learning of the accident, local villagers immediately rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. After considerable effort, the locals extricated the injured trapped inside the damaged bus and transported them to the Teesa Civil Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations are underway at the scene. Machines were used to straighten the damaged bus and rescue the injured. Police and administration teams also arrived at the scene and are engaged in rescue operations. Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani stated that the police have launched an investigation. The circumstances of the accident and the driver’s loss of control will be revealed after the investigation.
Chief Minister expressed grief
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh also expressed grief over the accident. A message issued from the Chief Minister’s office stated, “The news of the death of seven people and the injury of 11 others in a bus accident near Chaluj turn on the Teesa-Bairgarh road in Chamba district is extremely saddening. My deepest condolences go out to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident.”
The tweet further read, “May God grant the departed souls a place in His feet and give the bereaved family the strength to bear this immense loss. The district administration has been instructed to immediately admit all the injured to nearby hospitals and ensure proper treatment for them.”
