The meeting between Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has created a stir within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Unease is also visible within the Mahayuti ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Prashant Kishor met with NCP national president Sunetra Pawar and her elder son, Parth Pawar, on Thursday. 

Younger son Jai Pawar attended virtually. Prashant Kishor recently made headlines for winning the Bankipur assembly by-election in Bihar. His party, Jan Suraj, pulled off a major upset there. Following the meeting, rumors spread that Kishor was suggesting a replacement for Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare. 

Will Prashant Kishore bid farewell to Sunil Tatkare?

Sunil Tatkare himself didn’t seem happy with this. He stated clearly that the party doesn’t need an election strategist. He understands the public mood by going out into the field. Tatkare also questioned how someone who already runs a party could be appointed as the strategist for another party. He was not informed of this meeting.

Has Prashant Kishor become the strategist of NCP?

State Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharane, a close confidante of Sunetra Pawar, confirmed that Prashant Kishor has been appointed the party’s election strategist. He dismissed rumors that Sunil Tatkare had been removed. Dattatraya Bharane said that this was an internal party decision. 

Will BJP like this meeting?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not like this meeting. Prashant Kishor has been a critic of the BJP and recently defeated a BJP candidate. BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that the ally should not take any action that would raise doubts in the alliance. 

What is the meaning of Prashant Kishore’s meeting?

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also stated that he had no knowledge of this appointment. Prashant Kishor himself stated that it was a personal meeting. Sharad Pawar’s family is close to him. There was no political involvement in this. If Prashant Kishor becomes the NCP’s strategist, a clash between close associates is inevitable.
