A major news is emerging from Tamil Nadu politics and the film industry. The highly publicized divorce case involving Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and popular actor C. Joseph Vijay, has taken a new and surprising turn. The hearing of this high-profile case was scheduled for Friday in a Chengalpattu court, but it was abruptly postponed when Sangeetha made the significant decision to withdraw her divorce petition entirely.

The divorce petition was filed in February, and the hearing had been postponed several times.

It should be noted that in February of this year, Sangeetha filed for divorce in a Chengalpattu court, citing mutual differences and stating that she no longer wished to continue the marriage. However, since then, the hearing of Vijay and Sangeetha’s marital dispute has been continuously postponed for one reason or another.

Just last month, a local judge in Tamil Nadu adjourned the proceedings after the couple failed to appear in court. The next date for the case was then set for August 7th. Neither Vijay nor Sangeeta appeared in person at any of the previous hearings. On all those dates, both parties were represented by their lawyers, who informed the court of the personal reasons for their inability to appear.

What were Sangeeta’s demands and when did the couple get married?

In her initial divorce petition, Sangeeta formally sought the dissolution of her marital relationship with Vijay on the grounds of irreconcilable differences and disagreements. She also requested legal alimony and permission to continue living in their luxurious home in the prestigious Nilankarai area of Chennai.

It’s worth noting that C. Joseph Vijay and Sangeeta married in an interfaith marriage, following traditional Hindu rituals, in Chennai on August 25, 1999. A few years later, they were blessed with two children: their first son, born on August 26, 2000, and their beloved daughter in 2005. Now, with the petition withdrawn, all eyes are on the next steps in this case.
