India gives a befitting reply to China by changing the names of 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi: Amid the long-standing dispute between India and China over Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian government has added new names to 27 locations in the state on official maps. The government states that these names are an attempt to highlight the local identity and historical significance of the respective areas. India has once again clarified that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country.

Indian government rejects China’s claims

China has long asserted its claim over Arunachal Pradesh. It has attempted to declare this Indian state as part of Tibet. Furthermore, China has attempted to change the names of several areas in Arunachal Pradesh. However, the Indian government has consistently rejected these claims and criticized such actions by China.

Why are new names being added?

According to the government, the purpose of the new names is not merely to change names, but to highlight the true identity of these places. The new names have been incorporated keeping in mind local sentiments, regional identity, and the history associated with the land. The government stated that the land and people living in these areas are part of India.

The list of new names also includes Longju, located near the LAC. This area has long been a sensitive area on the India-China border. It is worth noting that in 1959, Chinese troops intruded here, after which they were forced to retreat. Bisa village, located in a high-altitude area, has also been given a new name. Important passes such as Dizo La, Riza La, and Pukur La are nearby. The Thag La Pass was a key point of initial military confrontations during the India-China War.

Which places received new names?

The name Jairampur has been added to Changlang district, a crucial area on the eastern border. This area is considered a vital route connecting Arunachal Pradesh with Myanmar. Other new names include Shambhu Sarovar, Bada Kundan, Chhota Kundan, Dhanbari, Preetnagar, Teritnagar, Ramnagar, Jaswant Garh, Tawang Road, Sagar Padma, Jyotinagar, and Baisakhi. Jaswant Garh is associated with the memory of Jaswant Singh Rawat, a brave soldier of the Indian Army.
