Pio Esposito: Manchester United make late move for Italian talent as Inter Milan respond

With Manchester United preparing to challenge on four fronts next season, Michael Carrick could do with more attacking depth up front.

Benjamin Sesko enjoyed an outstanding spell after the new head coach took charge during the previous campaign, but the Slovenian will require support next term.

Joshua Zirkzee has shown plenty with his creativity, but the Dutch forward still lacks a clinical edge in front of goal. That is why INEOS are open to letting him leave this summer.

Juventus have put forward two loan offers for the Red Devils, and the next call now lies with United.

If the former Bologna striker departs, alternative names have already been identified, with Dusan Vlahovic and Ollie Watkins among the options being considered.

Landing the Serbian free agent will not be straightforward because Barcelona and Besiktas are also in the race, while Aston Villa's valuation of the English forward is currently too high for United.

CaughtOffside have reported that Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito has attracted the attention of INEOS, with the club making a late enquiry for the 21-year-old centre-forward.

However, the Italy international has already verbally agreed terms on a new long-term contract that will keep him at San Siro until 2031.

“Arsenal and Manchester United are understood to have made late checks on Pio Esposito, who has verbally agreed a new contract with Inter Milan.

“The talented young Italian forward has been on the radar of both Arsenal and Man Utd for some time, but it now looks highly likely that he’ll be staying at Inter.

“The 21-year-old is now formalising his new contract, which will run until 2031 and see him earn a significant pay increase from the deal he signed back in April 2025.”

Pio Esposito matches INEOS' preference for young and hungry players, and his goalscoring numbers are impressive for someone of his age.

Last season, he scored 10 goals in all competitions, while his record for Spezia in Serie B was impressive to say the least.

But with the Nerazzurri unlikely to sanction a sale, the 20-time English league champions will have to look elsewhere if they want to bring in a striker at the Theatre of Dreams this summer.

The Peoples Person Reliability AssessmentOverall credibility: 7/10Why? Inter Milan were close to a contract breakthrough Manchester United's interest in Pio Esposito has been mentioned before It is unlikely that INEOS would have launched an enquiry for the player knowing his contract situation

TPP viewWe believe that Pio Esposito will stay with Inter Milan. Manchester United have admired the player for a long time, but they are likely to pursue a different profile this summer.
