Women’s Reservation Bill: Speculation is rife regarding the Delimitation, Women’s Reservation, and FCRA bills in the last four days of Parliament’s monsoon session. Meanwhile, political rhetoric has intensified between the BJP and Congress over the women’s reservation issue. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, responding to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks, demanded the unconditional implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act of 2023.
In fact, Kiren Rijiju had linked Rahul Gandhi’s video message shared by the Congress party to women’s reservation. In this video, Congress MP Rahul said, “The energy of Indian women is suppressed. They don’t have the freedom to express themselves or imagine. In my opinion, no country can succeed unless its women can express themselves. And I believe that a large part of my politics, and a large part of what politics should be like in this country, is focused on making people understand that without women’s expression, our country is incomplete and underdeveloped.”
Responding to this video, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister wrote in an X-post, “This seems to be a positive message from the Congress Party. There is a clear shift in Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s attitude towards women. I now hope the Congress Party will unconditionally support the Women’s Reservation Bill.” Responding to this post, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Rijiju ji, as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, who knows this better than you? The Women’s Reservation Bill was passed unanimously in 2023, with the full support of the Congress. The question is, why hasn’t it been implemented even after three years, and why do you want to unnecessarily link it to delimitation now? Implement the 2023 law. Without any conditions.”
