Left-handed batsman Sai Sudarshan has been ruled out of the entire Test series due to injury. Sudarshan had a big toe injury, due to which he was undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Bengaluru.

Sudarshan had got a place in the Indian Test team for the Sri Lanka tour and was in the process of fitness clearance. While recovering from the injury, he also started batting practice, but he was not fully fit for the Test matches. In such a situation, the team management has decided to keep him out of both the matches.

Did injury spoil Sudarshan's Sri Lanka tour?

Sai Sudarshan's toe injury was certainly minor, but it affected his Test series preparations. He was continuously rehabbing and it was expected that he would become fit in time and leave for Sri Lanka with the team. He had also started batting practice.

However, fitness was not considered sufficient for the test series. After this Sudarshan was dropped from the team. With his exit, the Indian team has lost an important name in its left-handed batting options.

Will changes have to be made in the batting order?

Sudarshan's absence can have a direct impact on India's batting combination. As a left-handed batsman, he gives a different option to the team. Now the team management will have to prepare the best playing-11 from the available players.

Devdutt Padikkal can be among the main contenders to replace Sudarshan in this situation. Padikkal has been a part of the Test team before and he may get a chance to prove himself in this series. Apart from this, the team also has other batting options.
