85 firms fined Rs. 40,500 Action taken for unsanitary conditions

In Patan city, the Food Safety Vehicle (FSW) team of the Food and Drug Administration (FDCA) and the Sanitary Team of Patan Municipality conducted a joint investigation campaign to ensure that citizens get clean and healthy food. Surprise raids were conducted on various hotels, restaurants, food trucks and stalls in the city. In this operation, on-site inspections of 80 to 85 business firms were carried out.

During the investigation, about 700 kg of inedible items were seized, which were kept in extremely unsanitary conditions and were harmful to human health. The seized inedible goods were destroyed by digging a pit at the butter processing site. The destroyed goods included artificially colored spices and colored water used in pakodas, Chinese snacks, oil that had turned black due to repeated heating, expired packaged food items, and paper used illegally for packing or serving food items.

A team of Patan Municipality collected a total fine of Rs. 40,500 on the spot from traders who violated health rules and maintained unhygienic conditions. This fine was collected as part of punitive action. After the action, instructions were issued to all food and beverage traders by FDCA Patan and the Municipality administration. They were urged not to use harmful colors in food items, avoid reusing burnt oil, and maintain adequate hygiene. The administration clarified that stricter legal action will be taken against traders violating these rules in the coming time.
