Southampton are assessing a possible move for Manchester United right-back Jaydan Kamason. The Daily Mail has reported that the 19-year-old caught the eye during pre-season and is highly rated at Old Trafford.

An England youth international, Kamason made a strong impression in United's summer fixtures, particularly in the 5-0 victory over Rosenborg.

Preston, Blackburn, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday are all interested in taking him on loan, while there is also attention from clubs overseas. United are not under any pressure to decide quickly, with Kamason under contract until 2028, and Michael Carrick's coaching staff could choose to keep him around the first-team group until January.

He has been involved while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have been resting. United want to take a closer look at him over a longer period before thinking about any sale of a homegrown player.

Right-back was an issue for Saints last season. Mads Roerslev missed most of the 2025/26 campaign after arriving from Brentford, and that side of the pitch was badly affected.

At times, Eckert switched to a 3-4-3 system to cover for the lack of options. Bree was brought back early from Charlton Athletic to fill the gap, which highlighted questionable squad planning.

In that context, Kamason would most likely come in as depth for the under-21s and as cover for the senior side. If he adapts quickly, he could challenge Bree, especially with Roerslev's fitness still uncertain.

Training alongside Roerslev and Bree could help his development, and opportunities for minutes may arrive if either of them struggles. Overall, it appears to be a smart, low-risk move if the fee is reasonable, although a short-term deal seems unlikely with United determined to keep him until at least January.
