Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
The experienced midfielder has signed a four-year contract, with the deal also including an option for a further year.
In a statement, Guimaraes said: “I’m so excited to join you. I will give you my best, I promise. I’m your warrior, I’ll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together.”
Arsenal had missed out on Vinicius Junior, who signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until 2032.
However, the club’s supporters will be pleased that Arsenal have now completed the transfer of Guimaraes, who is widely considered one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders.
He has made 195 appearances in all competitions, scoring 31 goals and providing 32 assists.
The 28-year-old played an important part in Newcastle’s League Cup success in 2024-25, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.
He was also part of Brazil’s squad at the World Cup, starting every game before Norway knocked them out in the round of 16.
Guimaraes has already proved himself in the Premier League and is highly regarded for his range of passing and his ability to score goals.
Newcastle had not planned to sell their captain after already losing Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.
But the Brazilian told the Tyneside club that he wanted to leave St James’ Park and move to Arsenal.
The North London club initially indicated they were prepared to pay up to £60m, but Newcastle rejected that offer.
The two clubs eventually agreed on a fee of £75m for the experienced midfielder.
