The death toll in Assam's ongoing floods has reached 99, with several districts reporting casualties as the flood situation continues to remain grim across the state.

According to the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin released on Saturday, the devastating floods have heavily impacted multiple regions, resulting in the loss of 58 males and 23 females, alongwith 18 children (12 males and 6 females).

Among the hardest-hit areas, Cachar district has recorded 22 deaths, while Sivasagar has reported 10 fatalities. Other severely affected districts include Karimganj (nine deaths), Golaghat (seven deaths), along with casualties reported across Dhemaji, Nagaon, Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Karbi Anglong.

Rescue and relief operations remain underway in the affected areas as district administrations and revenue circles continue to monitor water levels and provide assistance to affected populations in the inundated regions.

CM Sarma Assesses Damage in Darrang District

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited flood-affected areas in Darrang district to take stock of the situation and review ongoing relief and repair works.

Sarma visited Bengabara and Naharbari under the Mangaldai Assembly constituency and inspected breached portions of embankments along the Noa and Kulsi rivers.

At Bengabara, the Chief Minister inspected the breached portion of the Noa River embankment and reviewed the ongoing repair work. The breach a few days ago had inundated several villages in the area. He also visited relief camps at the under-construction Anganwadi Centre in Bengabara village and Outala HS School, where he interacted with flood-affected people taking shelter there. The Chief Minister enquired about their well-being and assured them of all possible assistance.

He later inspected the breached embankment along the Kulsi River at Naharbari. Sarma said the recent floods had caused considerable hardship to people in the area following breaches in the embankments. He said the government would take special measures to rebuild the breached embankments with enhanced strength.

The Chief Minister also assured that all flood-affected families would be provided necessary assistance at the earliest as per government norms.

Health and Family Welfare Minister and Guardian Minister of Darrang Ashok Singhal, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister and local MLA Nilima Devi, MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi, the District Commissioner and officials of the district administration and concerned departments were present during the visit.
