Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain this afternoon in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Red Devils are set for their second pre-season outing in Sweden after beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm last Saturday.

Manchester United and PSG have met four times in their history.

Both teams have won two matches each. Interestingly, PSG have claimed both their wins at Old Trafford, while United have come out on top at the Parc des Princes.

Most memorably, United produced a sensational comeback to defeat PSG 3-1 in France and eliminate the French giants from the Champions League in 2019.

Here are three storylines to raise the excitement before the match.

The Red Devils have gradually welcomed back most of their squad since the World Cup, but today’s group is expected to include the first pre-season minutes for some important stars.

Amad made his return for the first time last Saturday, while Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have all been included after coming back to training last week.

Matheus Cunha has also returned following duty with the Brazil national team, along with Senne Lammens, but they have been left out because of a minor illness.

United have already watched new signing Andrey Santos, who arrived from Chelsea, make an impressive start to pre-season.

Other new arrivals Karl Darlow and Tynan Thompson have still not been included in a matchday squad.

Today should give United supporters an opportunity to watch much of their reshaped midfield, with Tielemans likely to make his first-ever appearance for the club in this high-profile fixture.

Pre-season results should not be treated as absolute truths about a side’s development, but they can still be useful.

United will have been encouraged by how well they performed against Atletico Madrid as they prepare to test themselves once again on the elite European stage of the Champions League this season.

PSG, after winning the last two Champions Leagues, will offer an excellent measure of how far United can, or cannot, compete with Europe’s very best.
