Automobile Desk – The country’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer, Royal Enfield, is preparing to further strengthen its dominance in the adventure bike segment. There is talk in the automobile world that the company is planning to launch a new adventure bike, the Himalayan 440, in the Indian market. It is expected that this new bike could be seen on the roads by September 2026.
In terms of product portfolio, the company is developing this new bike on the same platform as the Scram 440. It will be positioned above the Scram 440 in the lineup and just below the premium Himalayan 450. Its primary objective is to attract bike enthusiasts looking for an affordable and reliable adventure bike without a lot of electronic clutter.
Powerful engine and performance
This new adventure bike from Royal Enfield is expected to feature a 443cc, single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine. This engine is expected to come paired with a 6-speed transmission. Power figures are expected to produce approximately 25.4 PS of maximum power and 34 Nm of peak torque. This engine’s specialty will be its excellent low-end torque, which will help the bike move smoothly over rough terrain and off-road conditions.
Suspension and safety setup
For a comfortable and controlled ride, the bike is expected to feature telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. Braking performance is expected to be enhanced with disc brakes on both wheels, along with a dual-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS). To enhance off-roading experience, a switchable rear ABS option is also possible, allowing riders to disable the rear ABS at their convenience.
Design and modern features
Keeping its adventure styling in mind, this bike could feature 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke or alloy wheels. Tech features include a modern TFT digital instrument cluster similar to the Himalayan 450. For rider convenience, features like Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and map mirroring could be included.
Potential pricing and budget calculations
The Himalayan 440 is expected to start at around ₹2.5 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. It will be a more affordable option compared to the Himalayan 450. This bike is specifically targeted at riders who prefer a bike with minimal electronics, a robust build, and strong off-road performance.
The big bang of the future: Himalayan 750
Additionally, Royal Enfield is rapidly developing another larger adventure bike, the Himalayan 750. This flagship bike is expected to make its global debut at EICMA 2026. It will feature a new 750cc parallel-twin air/oil-cooled engine, producing approximately 55PS of power and 60Nm of torque. It is expected to feature several high-tech features, including riding modes, cruise control, a new tubular chassis, and an updated exhaust.
