5 big reasons why gold and silver are expensive

  1. Global Tension और Geopolitical Crisis

Amid rising geopolitical tensions and war-like situations around the world, investors’ confidence shifts toward safe haven assets. During these times, increased demand for gold and silver supports their prices.

  1. Impact of the US Federal Reserve’s decision

The US Federal Reserve’s hint of an interest rate cut and a dovish stance have also impacted gold and silver prices. The dovish stance on interest rates is providing support to precious metals in the global market.

  1. Weakness in Dollar Index

A weakening US dollar in the international market makes gold and silver relatively cheap and attractive to investors buying in other currencies. The decline in the Dollar Index is also a reason for the rise in gold and silver prices.

  1. Record Gold Buying by Central Banks

Central banks around the world, including the RBI and other global central banks, are increasing their share of gold in their foreign exchange reserves. Continued gold buying by central banks is maintaining demand for gold in the market and supporting prices.

  1. Industrial demand for silver increased

Industrial demand is also a major reason behind the rise in silver prices. Silver’s use in renewable energy, particularly solar panels and the electronics sector, is driving demand. This increased industrial demand is supporting silver prices.

Gold has become costlier by Rs 16,000 so far in 2026

The year 2026 will see constant fluctuations in the prices of gold and silver. On December 31, 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold was over ₹1.33 lakh. Now, it has risen to ₹1.49 lakh. This means that in 2026, gold has become costlier by approximately ₹16,000.

However, gold and silver have seen even higher levels during this period. On January 29, the price of gold reached an all-time high of ₹1.76 lakh and silver reached an all-time high of ₹3.86 lakh per kg. Current prices are below these record levels.

Silver is costlier by about Rs 1,000 this year.

Talking about the price of silver, on December 31, 2025, the price of one kilogram of silver was ₹2.30 lakh. Now, it has risen to ₹2.31 lakh per kilogram. This means that the price of silver has increased by approximately ₹1,000 so far in 2026.

However, silver had hit an all-time high of ₹3.86 lakh per kg on January 29. The current price is significantly lower than this.

Gold may reach Rs 1.60 lakh by the end of the year

According to commodity expert Ajay Kedia, gold and silver prices have fallen significantly from their highs, and investors are investing in them. However, he says that lump sum investments in gold and silver should be avoided.

According to Ajay Kedia, if current conditions persist, the price of gold could once again reach ₹1.60 lakh per 10 grams by the end of the year. Silver prices are expected to reach ₹2.80 lakh per kg.
