LPG Gas KYC Update: The Central Government and government oil companies have taken a very important decision for domestic LPG gas consumers across the country. To prevent black marketing of gas cylinders and to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the genuine beneficiaries, the Aadhaar-based e-KYC process has been made mandatory. Customers who have not yet completed their KYC will have their gas subsidy permanently stopped. Government oil companies have set a deadline of August 16, 2026 for this process. Therefore, customers must verify their gas account with Aadhaar before this deadline.
Subsidies for ‘these’ people will be cancelled
- Customers with incomplete e-KYC: Those who have not verified their Aadhaar by August 16.
- High Income Group: Families whose annual income is more than Rs 10 lakh will also be excluded from the subsidy list under this rule.

- Gas subsidy stopped: The subsidy directly deposited into bank accounts will stop completely.
- Expensive gas cylinders: Instead of the domestic subsidized rate, consumers will have to buy gas at commercial or non-subsidized market prices.

Easy way to do e-KYC from home via mobile
Customers do not need to stand in queues at gas agencies. With the help of a mobile app, this process can be completed in just a few minutes…
- Download the official mobile application of your gas company (e.g. Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas) from the Play Store.
- Login to the app using the mobile number linked to your gas connection.
- Go to the app’s menu and click on the ‘e-KYC’ or ‘Aadhaar Verification’ option.
- Scan your face using your mobile camera.

Big changes in the rules of Ujjwala Yojana
Along with this e-KYC drive, the government has also limited the number of subsidized cylinders per year for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries. Instead of the 9 subsidized cylinders available earlier, now only 4 cylinders will be eligible for a subsidy of Rs 300 per year. If more cylinders are required, the consumers will have to pay the full price. The government has taken this drastic step to curb the rising global cost and misuse of gas.
