Manchester United’s lively 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday came with a downside.

Early in the first half, Mason Mount limped off with an injury, increasing head coach Michael Carrick’s worries.

The England international has had an excellent pre-season, with the new manager using him in a deeper midfield position alongside Andrey Santos.

INEOS have reportedly been so impressed with their No.7 that discussions had taken place over whether the Red Devils might decide against signing a third midfielder.

But those plans were dealt a major blow in Gothenburg, where the former Chelsea player headed down the tunnel after a lengthy conversation with the medical staff and Carrick.

Even if the issue is not too serious, it acted as a warning sign for United’s co-owners. Considering the versatile midfielder’s injury record, it would be a significant risk to rely on him remaining fit throughout the whole of next season.

It is understood that the 20-time English league champions would rather sign players already proven in the Premier League, and Carlos Baleba has been on their radar for a considerable period.

In fact, United had even agreed personal terms with the Brighton & Hove Albion star last summer, only for the Seagulls’ huge valuation to ultimately cause the move to fall through.

The Old Trafford club are still interested in a move this summer as well, but Brighton’s demands could once again put the deal out of reach.

The Cameroon midfielder’s recent injury has made the situation even more complicated. Fabrizio Romano has now shared an interesting update on the powerful midfielder.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist said the 22-year-old still dreams of a move to the Theatre of Dreams, but Brighton are not expected to soften their stance any time soon.
