The weather is set to change again in many parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in several states on August 9, 2026. Over the next 14 to 15 hours, rainfall may increase in some areas, accompanied by strong winds, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour.

New Delhi: The monsoon appears to be reactivating in many parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, squalls, and strong winds in several states on August 9th. According to the weather department, wind speeds could reach 60 to 70 kilometers per hour in some areas. Heavy rain in hilly areas could also increase the risk of landslides and road disruptions.

The weather is expected to change rapidly over the next few hours. Rain, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, is expected in many areas of North India, Central India, and Eastern India. Therefore, people are advised to monitor local weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during these inclement weather conditions.

These weather systems will increase rainfall

According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over Gangetic West Bengal and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is persisting in the upper atmosphere over southwest Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas. The influence of these weather systems may increase rainfall activity in several states. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is possible at some locations.

Bad weather likely in 15 states

According to the IMD forecast, rain and strong winds are expected in isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra on August 9th. People working in open areas, farmers, and travelers need to exercise special caution. Strong winds may also pose a risk of falling trees, power poles, and temporary structures.

Rain and storm alert in Delhi

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the national capital, Delhi, on August 9th. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in some areas. The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius. Waterlogging and traffic disruptions are possible in low-lying areas during the rains.

Alert issued in several districts of Uttar Pradesh

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of Uttar Pradesh. Bad weather is expected in several districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Noida, Mathura, Agra, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Jhansi, Etawah, Firozabad, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Ballia, and Mirzapur. Winds could blow at speeds of 50 to 55 kilometers per hour in some areas. The maximum temperature in Lucknow is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 28 degrees Celsius.

There is a danger of heavy rain in Bihar and Jharkhand as well.

Rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for several areas in Bihar, including Gaya, Champaran, Rohtas, Nawada, Banka, Munger, Nalanda, Buxar, Siwan, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Saharsa, and Supaul. In Jharkhand, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Palamu, Khunti, and Dumka are likely to experience heavy rain and strong winds. Wind speeds are expected to reach 50 to 60 kilometers per hour in some areas.

Landslide threat in hilly states

Heavy rains in mountainous areas, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, will pose a risk of landslides and road disruptions. Rainfall is expected in areas such as Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand. Residents and tourists in mountainous areas are advised to stay away from rivers, landslide-prone areas, and vulnerable slopes.

Winds up to 65 kmph in Rajasthan

Rain and strong winds are expected in Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Churu, Kota, Jalore, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Tonk, Dausa, and Alwar in Rajasthan. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 65 kilometers per hour in some areas.
